Follow-up Meeting Kurunegala

The APN Project organized a follow-up meeting for the previous focus group discussion about the Kurunegala Lake, with the stakeholders to discuss an action plan to minimize the pollution, at Kurunegala municipal council, with the honorable participation of the commissioner, on 26 th of April 2023. 24 executives, from each stakeholder institutes participated on the event, by representing National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Kurunegala Municipal Council, Provincial Environmental Council, Central Environmental Authority, RDA, UDA, Universities etc. As the outcomes

1.) Initiating capacity building and awareness programs for the general public within next two months.(School programs etc.)

2.) Formation and continuation of the lake management committee under the leadership of KMC with the technical support and knowledge of the other stakeholder parties.

3.) To design an appropriate action plan which gives the guide to prevent the pollution of Kurunegala lake

4.) Got the approval to implement and renovate CFWs in Kurunegala lake under the consultancy of the APN Srilanka with the collaborative participation of other Stakeholders.

5.) Allocation of duties for the stakeholders according to their capacity, with regards to the pollution prevention of Kurunegala lake. Also, the lake management committee meetings will be continued for the future.

Follow-up Meeting Kandy

3 rd follow up meeting of the Kandy Lake – focus group discussion series, was held on 30 th March 2023 at the Governor’s office Kandy, under the honorable participation of Central Province Governor with the participation of lake stakeholders, to discuss about the action plan, which was suggested by lake stakeholders in previous discussions, to prevent future pollution of Kandy Lake.

Workshop pallekale

A workshop, which is organized by Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and Board of Investment (BOI) Sri Lanka in conjunction with World Wetlands Day 2023 , was held at 23 rd of February 2023, at MAS Holdings Auditorium at Board Of Investments Pallekale . APN project was invited for that event to share the knowledge of application of wetland concept as a water quality improvement application. I would like to express my special thanks to Professor K.B.S.N.Jinadasa, who delivered the keynote speech entitled “Importance of Natural Wetlands, and the Technology of Application of constructed Wetlands to treat wastewater”. Accordingly we conducted a field visit for the school students . I hope this would be a good contribution from our APN project for the initiatives.

Beira Lake Project

“Integrated assessment of existing practices and development of pathways for the effective integration of nature-based water treatment in urban areas in Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Vietnam”

Sampling was done on 17/11/2022 at Beira Lake in order to measure the current water quality of the lake.

Questionnaire Survey and Sampling Kurunegala

“Integrated assessment of existing practices and development of pathways for the effective integration of nature-based water treatment in urban areas in Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Vietnam”

Questionnaire survey and Sampling were done on 14/09/2022 at Kurunegala Lake round in order to measure the water quality of the lake and to get an impression of general public on current state of the lake & public awareness on existing floating wetlands.

Questionnaire survey was conducted on 09/09/2022 at Kandy Lake round in order to get the impressions of general public on current state of the lake and public awareness on existing floating wetlands.
